This award recognises excellence in youth accommodation in the UK

This is an award for an individual property and submissions for accommodation groups will NOT be considered.  All entries into this category must be UK based, although the owners or subsidiaries may be based overseas.

Judges will score the entry out of ten on each of the criteria elements and will be looking for an operator the is providing accommodation that stands out from its competitors. Examples of excellence across as many areas of business practice as possible.  Your commitment to health, safety, accessibility and the environment.

Submissions will also be highly credited for commitment to innovation. User generated reviews and customer ratings will also be taken into consideration.

Eligibility

Entries are invited from UK based BETA members and UK based non-member companies.

Organisations can enter one or more award category with either the same or another project as appropriate.

Organisations that have been successful in winning a particular category for three consecutive years will not be permitted to enter. These organisations will be listed in the Hall of Fame. A period of one year must pass before that organisation is eligible to enter again.

Judging Process

All Official Entries & Supporting Evidence must be received by 17:00 GMT on 20th September 2019. The panel of judges will meet in person to review each submission and supporting evidence and rate the successfulness of each criteria point out of 10. The short-listed nominations will be announced in October with the winners being announced at a glittering ceremony on Wednesday 20th November 2019.

Award Ceremony

The British Youth Travel Award Ceremony will take place on Wednesday 20th November 2019, where we will celebrate the crème de la crème of the British youth, student and educational travel industry! Format of Entries

Only entries submitted using this official entry form that are completed in full prior to the competition deadline will be considered.

Using the entry form please respond to each of the criteria points. You will be scored a maximum of 10 on each of these elements. Each criteria point has a maximum character limit. Your submission statement should not exceed 2,000 words.

Your entry can be supported using supplementary evidence which can be uploaded and is limited to two files and one video per entry. Supplementary evidence can also be sent by post before the competition deadline. Evidence received after this date will not be considered. Receipt of each submission will be acknowledged.

What makes for good supplementary evidence? we recommend (where applicable) references, testimonials, customer feedback, business plans, campaign metrics or anything that can demonstrate the successfulness of your entry.

Please note: If you are posting your supplementary evidence the PO Box is unable to accept deliveries from couriers. Please leave sufficient time for your entry to arrive. Submissions that arrive after the deadline will not be entered.

Video Guidance

Video guidance

  • Any voice, or any number of voices, can tell the story of your project or campaign
  • It will be judged on the story you tell not on the production values
  • Videos can be simple and straightforward to make – at a minimum, all that’s needed is access to a smartphone
  • You must use the 1.5-minute video to address why your entry is special and why you should win
  • Further information about the entry can be covered in your awards entry form
  • If using a collection of images, consider recording a voiceover to explain the entry
  • Record in landscape mode to make the most out of the space on the screen
  • Make sure the audio is clear and of a reasonable quality
  • Make sure the lighting is good when recording a video
  • If using subtitles, please ensure they are legible throughout the video and can be seen on a computer and a large screen

Notes for entrants​​​​

  • Your video must be no longer than a minute and a half (your entry will NOT be accepted if your video is longer than this)
  • Your video must be explicitly about the project itself and NOT be a marketing video

I am not a member of BETA , can I still enter?

Yes this event is for all organisations in the youth, student and educational sector, not exclusive to BETA members.

I have been awarded before – am I eligible to receive another award?

Yes you can nominate every year. However organisations that have been successful in winning a particular category for three consecutive years will not be permitted to enter. A period of 12 months must pass before that organisation is eligible to enter again.

How do I get into the Hall of Fame?

For you or your company to feature in the Hall of Fame, you would need to win in a single category for three consecutive years.  Other entries in the Hall of Fame are for individual awards for Outstanding Achievement and our industry’s Rising Star’s. Visit our Hall of Fame

If I meet all of the criteria, will I definitely get an award?

If you meet all of the criteria, your nomination will be submitted to our panel of judges who will score each application and select a winner in each category.

Can I submit for more than one award?

Yes you can nominate for as many categories as you wish.  Please ensure you complete an Official Entry form for each category. 

When is the awards Nominations deadline?

All submissions must be received by 5pm on 20th September 2019.

Who can vote for the Best Youth Destination Award?
