We are delighted to have adversity adventurer Alex Staniforth as this year’s guest speaker and host.
Alex aims to inspire other to overcome their own Everest in life.
Aged just 21, Alex is an endurance adventurer, motivational speaker and author and ambassador from Chester. In 2015 his second attempt to climb Mount Everest ended in disaster after narrowly escaping an avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall triggered by the Nepal earthquake, which tragically killed three of his teammates at base camp. His first attempt to reach the summit in 2014, aged 18, was cut short by another major avalanche in the Khumbu Icefall.
Alex is no stranger to adversity, suffering epilepsy, stammering, mental health problems, bullying and low self-confidence in early life. But this has only driven him to achieve his potential. He climbed Mont Blanc aged 17, carried the London 2012 Olympic flame through Chester and has raised over £55,000 for charity. He is an ambassador for YHA England & Wales. In 2016 he released his autobiography “Icefall”, endorsed by Bear Grylls, and recently attempted to climb Cho Oyu, the sixth highest peak in the world.
